Field Work

One of the most important aspects of the program has been the opportunity to learn by doing through various fieldwork activities on the snow. We have had many ski tours with our professors in both our first and second year, where we received practical instruction on different topics and skills, such as:

  • watching and imitating demonstrations by the experts

  • digging numerous snowpits to analyze the snowpack structure and stability

  • becoming familiar with different types of snow tools and how to use them effectively

  • practicing search and rescue techniques with transceivers, probes and shovels
